Rolling Solo - on to Season 3

Duncan Thomson

RPGs and solo games considering for Season 3 of Rolling Solo. Short article as this weekend is UK Games Expo in Birmingham.

Seasons of Solo

The actual play podcasts use seasons to denote different shows and game systems. So I'm doing the same, even though It's over two years since starting Rolling Solo properly!

Season 1 started with the fragile first steps of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1st Edition, followed by a few more British RPGs (Dungeoneer, Troika, Warlock!).

Season 2 began with the solo classic Ironsworn, settling on a 4-part format. Then switched to a mix of other games, with highlights being Dragonbane, Fléaux! and Electric Bastionland. Then finished off with a couple of solo specific games in Apothecaria and Broken Cask.

And now it's time to return to classic format in Season 3.

Games of Season 3

Season 3 of Rolling Solo will be a mix of solo and group rpgs (played solo) plus a few other solo games. And trying to learn how to enjoy journalling!

Candidates for games include...

Solo RPGs: Brindlewood, Colostle, Ironsworn: Starforged, Thousand Year Old Vampire

Traditional RPGs: Dolmenwood, Barbarians of Lemuria, Forbidden Lands, Heart: The City Beneath, Legacy: Life Among the Ruins, Mythic Bastionland, Shadowdark, Ultraviolet Grasslands & the Black City

Other Solo Games: 2d6 Dungeon, Delve, Fighting Fantasy, Notorious, Steam Highwayman.

Kicking off Season 3 is an RPG close to my heart, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition. It continues a tradition as season 1 started with WFRP 1st edition. I'll also be trying out a variety of solo tools!

Tools of Season 3

I'll be trying out a variety of tools for solo too. A few new oracles & emulators, a few we've used before.

Some random tables in physical form, a few online generators (procedural ones, not that AI shit), some map generators.

Physical decks of cards such as the new Gamemaster's Apprentice 2e Base deck. Then more visual stuff such as Story Cubes, tarot cards, visual generators (non-AI) and fantasy art.
