Thoughts on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2e

Continuing on from last time's notes.
WFRP continues to play well. It's using a proven d100 system and is a game I know well.
Anytime playing solo, using a system you know makes everything a little easier. Less things to learn or remember about.
The combat system can grind down with more experienced characters. Hilda hasn't got into a fight yet and it's not likely to last long if she did!
The magic system is one of my favourite things and one of the reasons a second character has appeared. But the spells haven't yet come up during the scenes.
Solo Tools - Mythic 2e
wfrp 2e thoughts | solo tools | scenes | characters | threads & npcs
Building on previous Solo Notes.
Starting off with a Mythic tip. I avoid rerolling if I can when rolling on Meaning Tables. Often when playing solo I'll use inspiration / spark tables with an alternative result.
So when rolling a d100 for a Meaning Table, reverse the numbers to get an alternative result if you're not sure of the first one. A 97 becomes 79. I reverse doubles (33, 88), adding or deducting "5" from each number (22 --> 77, 66 -->11). For doubles could also take the next lowest double.
In the story Mythic continues to make suggestions and take the narrative in new directions. Close a Thread is my favourite Event Focus result as it gives a dramatic punch.
You thought the story was maybe heading in a certain direction, but now there's something you have to resolve. And resolve it now. Either bring it to a conclusion or drop it as a running concern.
In scene 8 I had to resolve a thread I'd just added a few minutes before. For me it brought the story alive and I was excited again after not being sure what was going on!
Adventures of Hilda (and Berlinda)
wfrp 2e thoughts | solo tools | scenes | characters | threads & npcs
Continuing from Starting Scenes.
The viewpoint character is Hilda.
Scene 4 - Kislevite Garden Party
"Fortune favours the halfling. The Kislevites love a party and all the important people will be there. Tonight is the next step to fame and fortune."
Expected Scene - Play at Kislevite Party. Mythic gives Altered Scene - Increase an Activity (more people)
The party is in beautiful ice gardens packed with important people. Among them is the Knight of the White Wolf who closed the Loud Whistler. Hilda, Katerine and Ida feel a little under pressure. Hilda mingles and listens as she performs, but most conversations are in Kislevite or about inane topics.
Mythic Meaning - Control Illusion
Hilda watches a Kislevite worker of ice magic put on a light show, helped by ice and a pair of large mirrors. Natalia Zima impresses many people and is asked to do many shows.
A little later in another garden, Hilda and Katerine perform stories of Middenheim. They're popular and tipped well. After approaching the ice witch, Hilda gets invited to support her at other engagements (new thread). She also gets invited to a meeting the next day at an Inn.
Mythic Meaning - Injustice Success
Gerhardt Stoll, the knight who closed the Loud Whistler, is toasted and gives a speech about clearing streets of scum, such as the riffraff entertainers he recently turfed from the corrupting tavern. Gets lots of support and cheers.
Scene 5 - Offer at the Golden Onion
"The Golden Onion has been in Middenheim for decades. A circular shack in a platz, selling ale from five hatches, surrounded by wooden tables. Nowhere better for mingling in summer"
Expected Scene - Meet at Golden Onion. Altered Scene - Add a Character (Old Friends and Foes from Middenheim)
Next morning at the Golden Onion, Hilda finds a nasty surprise. Berlinda Frohlich is a masculine conjurer she met the night before. But the muscular, grinning man beside her is Detlev, a bullying watchman who is no friend of halfling or Hilda.
Detlev has a simple request. To get Berlinda into Hilda's next gig, which will be at the residence of Gerhardt Stoll (new thread). Otherwise they'll be trouble for Farwit and his pies. Hilda agrees.
Scene 6 - Pienose Politics
"I've paid for my own room at an inn! I'm doing well enough earning in the streets. Someone like me shouldn't have to share, and Berwit's place is crammed. Gives me space to practice with Franz."
Expected Scene - Watch Old Group. Mythic gives an Interrupt Scene (NPC Action by the Pienose Players)
Mythic Meaning - Break Investment
Next day Berlinda and Hilda meet to plan, but hear cheering and laughter. Find Hilda's old group, the Pienose Players are centre of attention in a plaza. Three humans, a halfling and a dwarf, they are telling how they sold their legendary wagon, the Pienose, to buy bread for the good people of Middenheim.
Crowd love it and there are leaflets being handed out. They tell of the rich storing up grain and pushing up prices. They start to grow angry at the injustice highlighted by the Players. Hilda gets angry with her old comrade Elangar Altockson, demanding her share of the wagon.
Elangor is sad, saying how he always liked Hilda. But was disappointed when she didn't share their new vision and rejected the new plays. How she wanted fame over making a difference. Now they've got new backing and Hilda should stay away and maybe leave the city...(new thread).
Scene 7 - Middenheim Montage
"Detlev means trouble. Official sanctioned trouble. He was one of the reasons why I left Middenheim and most of my family hold a grudge against him"
Expected Scene - Montage of Berlinda and Hilda Performing and Spending Time Together. Mythic gives Scene as Expected
Mythic Meaning - Mundane, Resourcful
Hilda assisted by Berlinda performs to crowds outside mansions of the nobles.
Mythic Meaning - Water, Smelly
At a fountain surrounded by flowers, Hilda and Berlinda do a costume and magic show. Goes very well and Hilda becoming more known.
Gossip check with "More Adventure" and "Riches, Beauty, Instruction" as meanings
Hilda hears of a festival happening soon down in the forest below Middenheim (add thread - Get to the Wolf Star Festival) And of an elf in demand, charging a fortune to make the rich look beautiful.
Mythic Meaning - Strange, Damage
In a ruined plaza with strange bits of statues piled up, the Pienose Players perform to a crowd, only to be upstaged by Hilda and her friends from Farwit's Bakery.
Mythic Meaning - Verbal, Fangs
A noisy monkey bares fangs, that glow faintly in the shade. Hilda uses earnings to buy him from Dorakina, the dwarven pet pedlar. Names him Nogrim.
Scene 8 - Forest Festival
"The Wolf Star Festival is something new. The year after the Storm of Chaos a crowd from the city accompanied a priest of Ulric who had visions of a wolf leading him to stones of a fallen star. It turned into a feast and celebration, in which the priest disappeared. The year after more gathered and last year it lasted for three days with many coming down from the city. This year more people and chaos are expected."
Expected Scene - Party at Home of Gerhardt Stoll. Mythic gives an Interrupt Scene - Close a Thread (Get to the Wolf Star Festival)
Natalia Zima and her Kislevite entourage invite Hilda and her partners to the Wolf Star Festival. Will perform one evening for Gerhardt Stoll there.
Mythic Meaning - Rocks, Rough
Rocks of various sizes are strewn around the hillside where Hilda and Berlinda perform, deposited there during the Storm of Chaos. They are including Nogrim for the first time in the act, a comedy about vanity.
Detlev appears with a couple of thugs among the busy crowd. Knowing it means trouble, Hilda eyes up the crowd. (Mythic Meaning - Stop Leadership). She then proceeds to depict a corrupt human watchman, pointing at Detlev and commenting "just like him". In the play the watchman stores bread and beats up commoners.
The crowd grow ugly when the "watchman" tries to stop a festival. Detlev and his companions melt away. Hilda warns the crowd to be alert for the watch here, wanting to stop the Wolf Star Festival.
Afterwards Berlinda says how much she's enjoying performing, how fulfilling it is. Feels the two have become friends. She reveals that Detlev is related to her, but she despises him. The watchman (or his allies) has an alliance with Gerhardt Stoll involving a beautiful enchanted mirror. Detlev's allies wanted Berlind to find the mirror in the house and steal it if possible
Expected next scene - Party of Gerhardt Stoll at Wolf Star Festival)
