Continuing on from the Game Intro.

So I've played a fair bit of 2d6 Dungeon now, through 3 and a half levels. It's a good game, easy to play and good for late night as I don't have to think as much as a journalling game or something like Starforged.

I don't find it that deep a play experience and parts of it can be repetitive. But it's easy to pick up for 10 minutes and then keep playing. It has a strangely addictive quality to it. That sweet spot of interesting enough to keep going but not too hard to be a drag.

I think you can also choose the level at which you want to interact with the dungeon. In the first level I was using the parts of the dungeon far more. But as I've gone lower down I've mostly been slaying the creatures and taking their loot.

Which is fine. It's a game that can ebb and flow along with your mood and situation when you are playing it.

It's also a good game for travelling. It's lightweight, doesn't need many materials and can be played in short chunks.

Being able to go to town each level is a nice touch too. A contrast to the dungeon, a chance to recuperate, get equipment and join with the wider world.

It's also a game easy to customise. With extra tables, or concentrating on different subsystems such as making the herbs. I've chosen to make dungeon levels quicker by reducing the size of my levels down. Levels 3 and 4 are maybe 60% the size of levels 1 and 2.

In the next part I'll be using more of the optional tables from the appendix of the Tables.

Levels 1-4 of Saltcrown Fissure

2d6 dungeon onwards  | dungeon levels | level 5 delver

Continuing with Kerwyn's exploration of Level 1.

Dungeon Level 1

Back in Burrowbrook I recounted the tales of what I have seen in the entrance to Saltcrown Fissure. I've given a copy of my map so far to my family. If I fall then they may aid any who come after me.
Completed Level 1 of Saltcrown Fissure

Narrative Moments

  • Returned to town
  • Defeated a priest, finding lots of gold
  • Found a treasure chest in a pool of water
  • Got warm by a fire in the Marble Hall
  • Made first herbal remedy (drying powder)

Dungeon Level 2

What kind of person would choose to live in a hole such as this?
The humans I fight are people such as you and I, yet they choose to dwell beneath the surface. What secret do they protect? What curse do they bear? What is it I don't understand.
Completed Level 2 of Saltcrown Fissure

Narrative Moments

  • Epic fight against a spiky Barric Knight
  • Found first treasure vault and a falling stone trap
  • Found a headband of taming on a Barric Knight.
  • Had a nice sleep in a fine bedroom
  • Talked to a holy man in a cage
  • Defeated a cleric and a monk, and released a woman from a stone cell.
  • Went to town (levelled to character level 4). Sold all herbs to max out best armour - great helm and scale jacket along with shield made from a table
  • Defeated overlord in final room of level 2, winning with ease thanks to new armour.

Dungeon Level 3

I defeated the leader of these upper levels of Saltcrown Fissure. He was served by knights who fight well and would be a strong force if united. I think more people used to live here, but many have perished.
From what I know next lies tombs and crypts. The living end and the dead rise.
Completed Level 3 of Saltcrown Fissure

Narrative Moments

  • Defeated an Ashen Fext and found a rune in it's sarcophagus.
  • Smashed glass to liberate magic ring from a skeleton
  • Found 2 potions in a statue hatch
  • Looted lots of urns and visited town

Dungeon Level 4

While these levels are smaller than those of the living, they are harder to bear. How long have the dead been here? Were some of them once people who lived in places like Burrowbrook? Could I be one of these one day?
Partway Dungeon Level 4 of Saltcrown Fissure

Narrative Moments

  • Found an underground stream
  • Found a fallen sarcophagus with 4 gems on a necklace
  • Slew lots of undead and looted their tombs. One had a rune
  • Visited town, got Rune engraved on weapon. Upgraded armour.
  • Reached character level 5
  • Defeated a Zordian Shade.
