Final Push with 2d6 Dungeon
2d6 dungeon onwards | dungeon levels | level 10 delver
Continuing on from previous Game Thoughts.
Well I didn't get to use the optional tables from the back of the tables book!
In the end I enjoyed drawing the maps more than playing the last through levels. It was a bit of a grind but I wanted to finish it and experience the whole game through to the end.
The game does change and is very interesting from a game design and random tables point of view. Level 6 adds linked rooms and level 8, the Maze is very different, if a little frustrating! Battles got harder towards the end and I took the time to actually make potions to throw and look at all the crafting options.
I think the problem is more that I'm not that into dungeon-crawling for the sake of crawling. I need some NPCs to engage with or factions to interact with or something story-wise going on. I found that room, monster, treasure with maybe a trap or hazard wasn't enough to keep me engaged!
Over the summer I did some solo OSE (Old School Essentials) using Stone Hell and loved it, so it's not dungeons in particular which are the problem.
It's the best solo crawler I've played so far, and I love the way it's procedural and designed around tables.
I understand that the Realms expansion brings more balance and builds on the 2d6 Dungeon foundation. I'll take a look that next year!
Levels 4-10 of Saltcrown Fissure
2d6 dungeon onwards | dungeon levels | level 10 delver
Continuing after Kerwyn's exploration of Levels 1-4.
Dungeon Level 4
It baffles me who built these tombs and the manner it which they are constructed!

Narrative Moments
- Slew a tomb raider with many gems
- Fought an undead bear
Dungeon Level 5
Why would someone bury a bear? And why were people raiding these tombs as I now descend them?

Narrative Moments
- Ambushed by two gargoyles
- Found two red sarcophagi, not yet opened
- Spooked by dark room. No light touched
- No way forward except locked doors
- Waited for someone to come through door. Kill a red knight, level to level 6
- Looted red tombs, slaying faraviata within. Find 10 gems and a rune.
- Took rune from stone circle,
- Returned to town to sell gems and visit herbalist. Unsure how economy survives
- Upgrade to full plate, village excited as furthest anyone got into Saltcrown Fissure
- Threw a metal bucket into a void. Scary
- Find a prisoner as slave to Maduca. Prayed to them and they released the prisoner.
Dungeon Level 6
The people of Burrowbrook are paying more attention now, their hopes kindled. I've delved deeper than any can remember of have recorded. Maybe the blight of Saltcrown Fissure can be removed from the land...

Narrative Moments
- Found a rune in a spiked pit. Weird
- A strange wrestler pushed me into a pit and fought me. But I wear heavy armour...
- Covered in blood from a bag
- Defeated strange monk angry about her workbench. Was rich though.
- Visited town. Reached final of an arm-wrestling contest
Dungeon Level 7
I'm unsure why experience warriors were attacking me unarmed. Maybe it's some kind of cult or ritual the inhabitants go through here...?

Narrative Moments
- A red guard was posted in a dead end room?
- Saw a cat near a termite mound. Does it feed on them?
- Defeated the Keeper. Need to focus and get better potions.
- Hit by a falling stone block
- Radacina blessed me with power to cast fireballs. Strange
- Defeated the Pen Tamer after fireballing him and throwing fire.
- Found way down, returned to town first.
- Stocked up on herbs, bandages and supplies
- Scavenged anything useful
Dungeon Level 8
I slew the Keeper, and the Pen Tamer. Why were they gathering all manner of beasts in this part of the Fissure?

Narrative Moments
- In icy room, stopped to make potions to throw
- Defeated snowy inghety with lots of gems. Not sure why here
- Had fight against a lizard king, finished off with a darkshell potion.
- Prayed to Radacina to heal wounds
- Wandered passages, found way down and retreated to town.
Dungeon Level 9
Two more might foes slain by my axe and potions. I feel the gods beginning to take an interest in me now.

Narrative Moments
- Big shrines, made offerings ready for tough times
- Freed a prisoner. Released him but couldn't understand him. He blessed me before entering the last realm of evil
Dungeon Level 10
And so I come to the final part. The Dungeon Lords of Saltcrown Fissure await. But I bear the blessing of the Trussed Man, and a bargain with the gods. They will not stand before me now...

Narrative Moments
- Found the Blood Lord in the blood pool and escaped unscathed using potions and throwing runed axe
- Called on Rodacina to defeat the Ferric Lord
- Called on Nevazator to defeat the Mire Lord
- Called on Moduva to defeat the Nether Lord and retrieved their pendants to prove victory. Unsure why they had a potion of fetid breath as their main possession.
Epilogue
In Burrowbrook they celebrate, the fall of Saltcrown Fissure. But next morning they find Kerwyn is gone.
He treks into the wilderness, ready to undertake the tasks required by the gods in return for his victory...
