Temple of the Skull God

The November 2026 read for the 100 Endings Book Club is Temple of the Skull God by Paul Partington. Explore an open-world lost city, jungle and islands as you Challenge monsters and warriors, until you are ready for the main adventure (clue in the title). Join us on the 100 Endings & Rand Roll Discord if you've got any questions or want to join in.

Temple of the Skull God by Paul Partington is an open-world fantasy gamebook with 573 passages. It's one of the GNAT gamebooks, a system released under Creative Commons that anyone is free to use. Paul has written other gamebooks, including ones using Old School Essentials (OSE) and Dragon Warriors rpg systems and for the Lindenbaum Competition.

You start off having escaped some bandits, ready to explore the jungle kingdom. There's a city to wander, or head out the gates and elsewhere. You can create a new character or bring in one from another GNAT book. New characters get the choice of 2 skills (and up to 3 more by sacrificing Talent), a weapon and then get basic equipment, ready to start out!

Ways to Play Temple of the Skull God

Temple of the Skull God is available for free (actually pay-what-you-want) at DriveThruRPG, as Paul has generously put it on pwyw during our November play. You can also find physical copies at Amazon.

You've also got the option of playing it in conjunction with another GNAT book, bringing your character over from one, once you've finished the other.

If you've already played Temple of the Skull God, the other GNAT titles are great options. Or consider another title by the same author.

Finishing Up

The objective of the 100 Endings Book Club is to get more people playing more gamebooks. Whether you join us on Discord, keep tabs on the gamebooks subreddit, or play along in your own little world, it's all good.

Feel free to join us on the Rand Roll Discord or at the Gamebooks subreddit.
