Here's a copy of the April Newsletter I send out for Rand Roll and Chaos Gen Newsletter.
Highlighted Gens and Tables
Bright Sun Games has released free generators and tables for Cyberpunk and Deeper Dungeons for Fantasy.
An old tool for dungeons (and wilds), DunGen is a Pointcrawl Dungeon Generator. It has filters for dungeon level, size, layout and themes (monster types, nodes, edges)
Larcenous Designs has released the GameMaster's Apprentice 2E: Base Deck, A System-neutral set of cards with prompts, dice results, traits and oracles for solo or group play. Updated to a 2nd edition.
Gamebook Updates
This is a new section, as I'm getting more heavily into gamebooks (including writing one).
On Rand Roll there's an Interview with Gamebook Author Jonathan Green (Fighting Fantasy, ACE Gamebooks), 5 Gamebooks to use for Starting Out with Solo RPGs and my latest Gamebook Diaries: Progress and Time in Open-World Gamebooks.
The Lindenbaum 2024/2025 gamebook competition is running. The Entries are all free to read, and voting closes end of May.
There is a free 70-section sample for Steam Highwayman: Princes of the West. It's the 4th in an open-world gamebook series, driving a steam-bike around steampunk England (Devon & Cornwall in this case).
Johnny Peterson has an article about the digital version of Heart of Ice, one of the most well-regarded gamebooks, known for a futuristic setting and dicless play.
Rand Roll Articles
For Solo RPGs there's an Interview with Anna Blackwell, Author of Apothecaria, Delve and other solo games. Apothecaria is also my current actual play, with the First Half of the journalling game about a village potion-maker.
There's also an Interview with PJSack of Solo Roleplayers Podcast, as well as A Wasteland Story which is a solo actual play for the Fallout RPG.
Random Tables continues updating old D&D Encounters to 2024. This time with Jungle, Feywild, Urban and Swamps.
Finally if you missed it there's the 30 Days of Sci-Fi RPG Tools in one article, from April on Reddit.
Finishing Up
Enjoy your gaming!
