Lost in the City
Lost in the City by Joseph Fry is a modern gamebook (published 2025) set in a modern-ish era. It's our December book for the 100 Endings Book Club. Join us on the 100 Endings & Rand Roll Discord if you've got any questions or want to join in.
Lost in the City is the first book by Joseph Fry, with you exploring a modern era city spanning basements, shops, skyscrapers and dark alleys. There are a few different ways to finish the book and special pieces of gear to pick up, some quite hidden.
It uses coins for it's randomness instead of dice (although you can use odds and evens on dice instead), the only gamebook I've seen that does so.
Joseph is the writer and illustrator of the book and already working on his next gamebook. I interviewed Joseph in September here on Rand Roll and he's a regular on our 100 Endings Discord.
Ways to Play Lost in the City
The simple option is to play Lost in the City as a physical book. It's available on Amazon, although the colour version is a lot more than the black and white (noir) version, due to printing costs.
It's also available in digital format at DriveThruRPG, currently discounted due to a sale.
Other Options
If you've played Lost in the City lots before or want a different option, then the theme for the month is New Gamebooks by New-ish Authors.
The runner up in the November poll was Temple of the Skull God (2024) by Paul Partington. It's a GNAT Adventure Gamebook, and currently on pay-what-you-want at DriveThruRPG.
Or Storm Quest by Andy Prentice, one of the Usborne Adventure Gamebooks and suitable for younger readers.
For other city themed gamebooks there's City of Thieves by Ian Livingstone in Fighting Fantasy, or Midnight Rogue (also FF).

Finishing Up
Feel free to join us on the Rand Roll Discord or at the Gamebooks subreddit.
Vote for January in a week or two. With the theme being New Gamebooks by Established Authors.
